Christmas Cookies

Yesterday,we made Christmas cookies.
First we put in 250g of plain flour.  Second we put 125g butter.  The final ingredient was 60g of sugar.
We mixed it all up, put in a tiny drop of water and rolled it till it was 1cm thick.  Next we cut shapes out of the dough and cooked it for 10-15minutes at 160 degrees centigrade.
After they cooled down we decorated the biscuits.

Through My Window.

For our 'Through my window' pictures we thought about what we can see out of our windows.
First we drew a view out of window; some look out over a road and others onto natural areas.
Next we made a collage picture using felt, tissue paper and other materials. Finally a window frame was glued on the top.

Model Fairground Rides

White Rhino Base have been extremely busy making model fairground rides as part of their topic Thrills and Spills - Fairgrounds and Amusement Parks.  Plenty of new skills were learnt such as sawing and drilling.  The models have seats and move just like the real thing with a pulley system to turn the wheel.

The BFG

We have been inspired by Roald Dahl's classic tale The BFG, and have written our own stories.  Below is a collection of BFG artwork by Rebecca, Ollie, Charlie, Ben, Nick, Jamie, Sammy, Brandon, Georgia and Charlotte. As you can probably tell, they were done in the style of the illustrator Quentin Blake.

Rights and Responsibilities

We decided as a class what we should expect from our classroom environment and how we should treat each other, we all agreed and signed our class charter.
As a class we talked about what we wanted and what we needed, ' Are we entitled to a good education?' do we need 'Fast Food?', we sorted ours wants and needs under these titles.

Making Fairground Rides.

Yesterday in D.T. Georgia and I made a Ferris Wheel using KNex. The wheel spins round and it is supported by 2 strong columns. We had to make a base to help balance the wheel.

Rhino Base Visit The Fair

On Friday 11th September Rhino Base visited the travelling fair. We learned how rides work and studied the artwork and lettering used on different attractions. This research will be used to help us draw, design and write pamphlets for our own imaginary theme parks and to make models of popular fairground rides.

Welcome Back

Hello and welcome to Rhino Base. Mr Osborne and Mrs Dolman are looking forward to an exciting year of learning with year 5.
